In one line, Teri Meri Kahaani is packaged with three love stories set in different eras in different places where lovers don't meet and in the end the director shows them getting together. Initially you would think that it is a reincarnation or the director's fancy to cast the pair whose chemistry is rocking and at its peak but there ends the point. We can draw our own inferences that Shahid and Priyanka are two different people born in three time zones and the topography is as follows Poona (60s), Sargodha (1910) and Nottingham, England (current place).
Just to drive home a point about lovers being made for each other, the vibes blah blah..we go through three syrupy love stories in which, even the estrangement is silly and superfluous. If there is some point that has not been dealt before, if the writing is superlative or if the performances are exemplary we can still sit through the film despite seeing the same old faces thrice, but it is not to be. By the end of the film, you walk away cribbing the wastage of time and money.
In a train Shahid Kapoor dressed in suspenders and a guitar offers kaala jaamun to a bouffant sporting film star Priyanka Chopra. She objects to his entrance first but later gets very pally with him and even asks him to alight the train and bring her the kacche aaam she sees from the window. They meet at a studio next and she is more than happy to spot him. Tells her assistant to bring him in after 'poore paanch minute ke baad', love does happen but there is the film star's friend who is in love with the same man.
The best story in this entirely preposterous drama is this retro part and that is of a spying journalist, with a camera hung around his neck and whose smile widens as the scoop gets bigger. Apart from Priyanka's flooding eyes and skin tight costumes there isn't much to grab your attention. Of course we don't fail to notice the starry Priyanka reading Filmfare with her photo on the cover and forcing his attention on it.
The next to show that love story recurs is the most fake episode in England, texting messages and emptying souls in pubs and parks is the in thing and here two there are two girls in love with the same man. The jilted one exposes him and his pictures and there's a break up on the issue on how he could use profanities on a woman and fall in love with the other in just two hours post the first separation. The convoluted narrative moves to the third and Sher Shayari takes over.
Priyanka Chopra is free spirited and a bold woman who takes fancy to the flirt who woos her with poetry. It is over between them when the British assault her father and the man she admires shows lack of spine. Beautiful camera work it is but it doesn't make up for the convoluted and cosmetic plot. A terrible waste of time to see this fancy dress drama that has no soul.
