Ko remade as Rangam by journalist-turned-director KV Anand had become a phenomenal success, the director instead of handling the Hindi version had allowed the producers to sell the remake rights and Prakash Jha will be handling it. Prakash Jha was mainly chosen because he is known as a filmmaker who deals with political subjects and the plot of the Tamil superhit starring Jiiva and Karthika Nair suits his style perfectly.
The remake rights of Ko is is the highest paid to a Tamil film after Ghajini and it's heard that the amount is close to Rs. 1.5 crore. Following the huge success of Southern remakes in Bollywood, top production houses have been competing heavily for bagging the remake rights of hit films.
