The South film industry's longstanding character artist Sujatha died at her home in Chennai after a prolonged illness on Wednesday. She was 58. She was born in Sri Lanka on December 10, 1952. Her mother tongue was Malayalam. Her first break came in Katha Nayika, and she appeared in 300 films in languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. She has acted with all the leading heroes including legendary stars Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, NTR, ANR and Sobhan Babu.
Dasari Narayana Rao's Gorintaku made her a name to reckon with in Telugu cinema. She has acted opposite ANR in Anubandham and Yedanthasthula Meda and NTR in Circus Ramudu. Her emoting in films like Sandhya and Guppedu Manasu fetched her acclaim. Her last film in Telugu Sri Ramadasu, depicting the role of Pokala Damakka won many accolades. She bagged the Nandi award for the best supporting actress in the Vadde Naveen, Maheswari starrer Pelli.
