V. Samudra, exclusively known for making family dramas is back with a female-oriented film starring Priyamani titled 'Chandi' with 'The Power of Women' as its tag line. With Dr. Sreenu Babu G. producing the film and G. Jagannatha Nayudu presenting it, Chandi began on an enterprising note at the Ramanaidu Film Studios. Dr. Ramanaidu took the early honours of switching on the camera with Dasari Narayana Rao clapping and Sunil weilding the megaphone.
The director returning post the debacle of Sevakudu, had told that the film was entirely based on the negative impact that the SEZs have had on the society backed by some real life incidents. With Priyamani portraying the title role having three different dimensions, the director had confessed that the film is sure to be completed within a single, three month schedule.
Priyamani, who was last seen in the horror film Charulatha said that she was flattered by the first script hearing and had given her nod immediately to do such a film. Working with Samudra in a revenge drama such as this, she added, is sure to give her career a big boost. She had told that the film would showcase the growth of an ordinary woman to a position of command.
The first time producer, too on a jubiliant note, a passionate film lover himself, conveyed that with a heart winning script narrated by the director, who had researched hard for 7 months on the theme was his basic reason behind wearing the producers shoes. The maker, added that he would not compromise at any stage and work with full responsibility to make the film tick at the box-office.
Another newbie, the music director Shankar too added that his experience under Mani Sharma as a keyboard player would prove handy to compose tunes for the film. Besides Priyamani, Chandi has a long line of cast that includes Vinod Babu, Nalla Srinu, Nagababu, Posani Krishna Murali, Telangana Sakuntala with comedians Ali, MS Narayana, Tagubothu Ramesh, Satyam Rajesh and such several high profile artists.
The movie has script by Karanam P. Babji, art direction by Venkateswarlu Mallela, edits by Nandamuri Hari, cinematography by Vasu, and Satyam Mummidi as a co-producer. While the compositions are given by NR Shankar and Chinna, Chandi has the screenplay and direction by Samudra.
